Only 2 mins to Cafes and Days Bay ferry wharf - catch the ferry it’s only 20 mins from Wellington (Te Papa, City Gallery etc) or a day trip to Matiu (Somes Island). Walk the bush track, bike to Pencarrow Lighthouse, paddle a boat, Kayak, fish, swim or just relax. Stroll to the tennis courts, 15 mins to Hutt City and golf courses by car.

Caranivan Cottage overlooks the spellbinding views of Wellington Harbour and the city. The sun rises over the horizon to greet a new day, and warms the waves that lap against the terrace. Spend the day lazing here, and even cast a line to catch fish without leaving the house. Caranivan is situated directly on the waterfront in Days Bay and it is an easy stroll to cafes and restaurants and William's Park. Eastbourne is a charming village within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and beach. Petone is a large town only a short drive away, and care must be taken to avoid the penguins which cross the roads at times. There are many restaurants, cafes, antique shops, and much more. Alternatively, take the 20 min drive by car or bus, or catch the fast ferry (only a short walk away), to the heart of Wellington city centre to see the many sites, enjoy the nightlife, and of course, serious shopping.

Secluded, romantic retreat nestled in native bush above Wellington harbour. Enjoy a scenic ride up the hillside to the front door in our private cable car, with seating for two, or wander up the path through beech trees and ferns. Enjoy this view from the path as you walk up through the bush. You'll see New Zealand native orchids and numerous ferns growing on the banks. Fantails, bellbirds and woodpigeons flit through the trees and the morepork sends out its 'morepork' cry in the evening after the sun goes down.
